04 Aug Getting to Know Rebecca
You’ve probably seen their faces and likely know at least some of their names. But, how well do you really know the people looking in your mouth? To help get you get a bit more acquainted with our amazing staff, we’re excited to launch our ‘Team Q&A Blog Series’!
Each month, we’ll profile a new staff member with in-depth interviews to give you an inside look into who the people are behind those friendly faces you see every six months or more.
This month, we’re kicking things off with one of our dental assistants, Rebecca!
Rebecca, Dental Assistant
Q: When did you know you wanted to be a dental assistant?
A: I had actually always dreamed of being a chef or caterer. However, when the economy crashed I was seeking a more recession-proof career option. I landed on the field of dentistry because of the fun, family-friendly environment you get to work in every day. And, I have never looked back!
Q: What’s your favorite part about your job?
A: I love making people smile. It’s so rewarding when I know I’ve made someone feel comfortable and at home in our office. I especially enjoy my time working with kids, as it’s always so fun to make them smile and laugh. It’s great to see when I can help children have a positive experience at the dentist.
Q: On to the personal stuff, what is a hidden talent or fun fact that people wouldn’t expect about you?
A: I actually have training in a wide range of skills! For example, I know karate, I’ve completed survival training classes, and I’m also trained for in-home nursing care.
Q: What’s your favorite vacation spot and why?
A: Given that I’m such a people-person, you’d probably be surprised to know that my favorite vacation spot is up in the mountains in the middle of nowhere without any cell service. Every year for our anniversary, my husband and I camp for a week out in a remote location to just escape everything.
Q: Do you have a favorite book or TV series you’re enjoying right now?
A: For television shows, I’m really loving Hell on Wheels and Heartbeat right now. For books, I’m currently reading Crazy Bus, which I would highly recommend.
Q: What are your favorite hobbies outside of the office?
A: Raising our two Rottweilers is the hobby that currently takes up most of my time. But, I also enjoy tending to our garden and chickens and playing photographer on the side.
Q: What’s the one thing you wish patients knew about you?
A: I’m an open book! This means most of my patients probably already know everything about me. But, what a lot of people don’t know is that when I was 15 years old I left home for the summer to work my first job, so that I could help pay to go to a private high school I wanted to attend. During that summer, I actually made $3,000 selling books!
